Our 2019 season started with a bang here at Sun Devil Reptiles. We hatched out 12 snakes, out of 10 eggs, from a Super Orange Belly Ivory x Freeway pairing. That’s right, we landed two sets of twins in the same clutch! The first egg to pip had two heads popping out, one Freeway, and one Orange Belly Ivory. It was certainly pretty exciting for us. Two of the twins were very small though, only 20 grams and 23 grams, so we were worried about their ability to feed and thrive. When feeding day finally came, the two little twins were actually the first ones to take a meal! What a relief that was.
The clutch has drawn a lot of interest. Many people seem curious as to weather or not the Orange Belly will make it possible to distinguish the Asphalt gene from the Orange Belly gene in the Orange Belly Freeway offspring. Only time will tell, but these Freeways came out extremely high quality. If you haven’t seen them, check them out on our Facebook and Instagram pages. There will be links at the bottom of each blog. Make sure to follow us, as there will be many more incredible animals to come this year. We have another clutch of freeways, with Pastel in the pairing, in the incubator right now. We have 14 gravid females, so far this year, and more than half of them have already ovulated, so the incubators are going to fill up quick. The season is just getting started, we plan on producing a lot of amazing, high quality animals this year that you don’t want to miss.
